Paul is heading one of the four franchises in the T20 competition in January and early February.
He has appointed his brother, former Victorian second XI allrounder and now Gippsland-based brother David, to captain the franchise.
Other well known Goulburn Valley cricket names in former state players Rohan Larkin and Bryan Doyle plus Chris Keady and Paul Trevaskis have also accepted co-coaching roles in the competition.
Former Dandenong Premier Cricket teammates of David Newman in Tom Donnell and paceman James Nanopoulos, who recently claimed 7/43 in a Premier League game, will be in the Newmans outfit.
With the exception of the marquee players the majority of players to fill the four teams in the competition will be drawn from a draft pool made up of players who nominate to play in the inaugural competition.
Qualifying matches are scheduled for January 12, 19 and February 2, with the final on February 9 under lights at Shepparton’s Deakin Reserve.
All these dates are Sunday fixtures to give players not recruited by the franchises and cricket lovers the chance to take in the action.
The response by players nominating to play in the competition has been pleasing, with over 30 players nominating up to last weekend.
The link to nominate is on the GVBBL Facebook page.
