Needing 10 runs off the last over Waaia was up to the challenge, securing victory off Alex Young’s last delivery of the day.
‘‘We just didn’t make enough runs. We were 3/140 with 15 overs to go and we only made 42 runs off those overs,’’ said Kyabram skipper Kyle Mueller summing up the somewhat surprise defeat.
Mueller was one of only four Kyabram batsmen to reach double figures in a disappointing Kyabram batting display.
The hard-hitting lefthander top scored with 60, which included six fours, off 88 balls. He shared a third wicket stand of 91 with the consistent Irish import Aaron Gillespie who made 34 off 62 balls.
Opener Paul Parsons got 24 after star bat and fellow opener Paul Newman fell for five but Billy McLay with 13 was the only other batsman to reach a double figure total.
Waaia brothers Mitch and Jordan Cleeland with 49 not out and 51 respectively were the top rungetters for the visitors.
Kyabram used six bowlers who each took a wicket with Paul Parsons was the most economical, conceding just 14 runs from nine overs.
Emerging paceman Angus McKenzie was also tight with 1/27 off eight overs.
Kyabram slipped from third to fourth on the ladder with the loss but get a chance to move back into a top three spot when it takes on Mooroopna at Mooroopna in a two-day game starting this Saturday.
●In B grade Kyabram lost no wickets in covering Waaia’s score of 112 in a resounding win.
Openers Tim Nelson with 47 not out and Troy Thomson with 43 not out rounded up the home team’s score in 23.3 overs.
With the ball Connor Hawes and Jason Parsons both picked up three wickets in economical spells while Jonathan Hipwell chipped in with two wickets for Kyabram.
●In D grade Kyabram had a good win against Waaia with most batmen contributing.
Former Premier League player Mick Rosser top scored with 31 off 33 balls and also took the bowling honours with three wickets.
