VIOLET Town Football Club is one Kyabram District Football League club gutted by the recent decision to call off the season.

It is believed The Towners is the only club which didn’t want to pull the plug on the current season.
It is understood another club remained neutral and another dissented when it came to the vote.
New Towners coach Joel Price believes the league may have ‘‘jumped the gun’’ in cancelling the season and ‘‘could have held off its decision for a couple of weeks.’’
But Price also admitted he understood the decision and there would have been a lot of hurdles to get over to get the season up and running.
Violet Town’s frustration over the season being cancelled no doubt stems from a busy pre-season recruiting campaign which was expected to lift the team to among this year’s main premiership contenders.
Redlegs in step for to 2021
And another KDFNL club is already on the front foot for the 2021 season.
Longwood Football Netball Club has reappointed coach Mick Galvin for another season.
Galvin took over the Redlegs senior coaching position and was to continue in the role this year.
Longwood president Ricki Shiner said Galvin and his family had made a big impression since joining the club and it had been an easy decision for the committee to reappoint him.
Pandemic thaws relations
How times have changed?
Cricket Victoria and AFL Victoria’s pact to extend the football season into a third week of October is a bit different to the attitude which existed between the two sports years ago.
As the Kyabram District Cricket Association president at the time, I recall attending a Victoria Country Cricket League annual meeting about 20 years ago and putting a case forward for Kyabram to host a pre-season AFL game.
It would have encroached into the end of the cricket season but in terms of a money making exercise it would have been a massive winner and put a lot of money into the KDCA coffers.
But the VCCL wouldn’t have a bar of a football game being played at the Kyabram recreation reserve in the cricket season - legally October to March - and the AFL pre-season game was transferred to Shepparton.
Admittedly the current situation has come about due to the coronavirus.
But hopefully it has also brought a better understanding that a lot of country people are involved in both sports and when an occasion does occur that involves both bodies common sense prevails as it has in this case.
PDFL itching to kick on
The Picola and District Football League has been itching to get a start and has announced Saturday July 11 as kick-off day - but with some provisos.
League president Denis Brooks said a start on that date will still be subject to health and government advice.
It is planning on a 13-round draw with top eight four-week finals series.
Holi Starzzz aligns on tracks
Merrigum trots owners Greg and Jenny Pell have enjoyed another win with their promising young pacer Holi Starzzz.
The two-year-old completed a hat-trick wins when he saluted at last Saturday night’s Bendigo meeting.
Holi Starzzz zipped over the 1650m trip in a 1.56.1 mile rate, an equal PB established when he won at his previous outing at Bendigo.
Trained and driven by David Miles, Holi Starzzz finished second when making his race debut at Kilmore on April 24 and then won at Kilmore before his latest two wins on the Bendigo track.
