Kyvalley Tennis Club, Rushworth Tennis Club, Rushworth Bowls Club and Rushworth Golf Club were all awarded a grant of $1000, designed to help them bounce back from the COVID-19 shutdown.
Kyvalley Tennis Club treasurer Melissa Williams said the grant would go largely towards renewing the club's membership with Tennis Victoria.
Due to COVID-19, the club's major income generating fundraisers and events were cancelled along with other community catering fundraising opportunities.
“We do a lot of fundraising over the winter... but all of that was obviously cancelled due to the lockdown,” Ms Williams said.
“Even now that Regional Victoria is not in lockdown, those things aren't happening.
“The grant won't nearly make up for what we've missed, but at least it's something.”
State Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said it was important to support regional clubs, especially in such an unprecedented time.
“I’m pleased to see so many local sports and recreation clubs across the Campaspe Shire receive this support, to help them pay the bills and make a return to play that little bit easier,” he said.
“We know that sport and recreation play a big part in our physical and mental wellbeing, that is why the Andrews Government is supporting our local sporting and recreation clubs — to help bounce back from coronavirus restrictions and return to play as soon as possible.
“One thousand dollars might not seem like much, but for a small, volunteer-run club in rural and regional areas — this funding is helping to pay bills which could mean the difference between starting back up sooner than later.”
