The Goulburn Valley League’s salary cap has been slashed from $175,000 a year to $125,000.
Kyabram has fully utilised the $175,000 in recent seasons when it has been the premier force in the league.
Joint Kyabram coaches Brad Edwards and Mick Mattingly, who are performing the negotiations with the Kyabram players on the new cuts, have been heartened by the response.
Kyabram has had a policy of paying every player a basic $75 per senior game with a climbing scale of payments to the more elite and experienced players.
Edwards said the Bombers were working on a new scale of payments in proportion with the $175,000 cap, which had met a positive response to every player who been contacted to this stage.
‘‘The players we have talked to are in agreement of what we are doing and have verbally committed to play next year,” he said.
‘‘There are a few more players we have to talk to over the next couple of weeks or so, but its looking good at the moment.”
Kyabram Football Netball Club president Peter Learmonth has mixed feeling about the salary cap cuts.
‘‘My main concern is that we don’t lose any of our younger players when the player payments are calculated. We have to fit them in because they are the future of the club,’’ he said.
Learmonth said in terms of raising money it would make the task a lot easier for clubs, which was the big upside of the cuts.
But Learmonth expressed concerns about player payment caps being strictly enforced and adhered to.
‘‘It will get down to each club doing the right thing, but that always doesn’t happen,’’ he said.
