Three teams had won three games then rolled off to within the yard stick.
The third team, N. Thompson’s from Kyabram, had three bowls within the yard stick but weren’t closer enough.
The team that came second was from Tongala, with three bowls also within the yard stick but closer.
They were Barry Campbell lead, Pete Tinning second, “Chooka” Keith Tinning third and Darrel Reid as their skipper.
A Rochester team was the winner on the day with five bowls within the yard stick.
The team featured Bert Smolenaars lead, Alan Benson second, Brian Trengrove third and Timothy Quinlan was the skipper.
Members of both teams also received a chook each.
Ten resting touchers envelopes from Maurice Spiers (who was unable to be there) were gratefully received by the 10 players.
As there were 14 resting touchers overall, Eddie Smith pitched in and contributed to those extra four, for which we gratefully thank him.

Valley View
Our midweek bowls commenced after a short break for Christmas and new year with a narrow win over Elmore at Valley View, 53 to 50.
Helen Emery’s rink of Marlene Topp, Nance Saunders and Anne Churches picked up the biggest win of the day 17/11 over L Wilson’s rink. Both teams bowled steadily each picking up 1 or 2 shot wins each throughout the day. The Valley View girls held the lead after 13 ends by 4 shots and improving that by 2 more than the Elmore team over the remaining 8 ends to be clear winners by 6.
The rink skipped by Leanne Busch with Jenni Bauerle, Graeme Topp and Julie Neale also claimed a win by 2 shots 17/15. This was an extremely close game with scores locked at 9 each after 13 ends. The Valley View girls managed to pick up three valuable 2 shots wins and two 1 shot wins, while E Burke’s rink only managing three 2 shot wins over the last 8 ends.
Bev Lyon’s rink of Nola Findlay, Marilyn West and Helen Ward, had an interesting game.
With Nola unfortunately playing only 6 ends before withdrawing due to feeling unwell. This bought in substitute Peter Lyon to take her place as third to Bev as Skip. Bev’s team had some great wins picking up a 5 and 6 on the 8th and 9th ends on the way to a lead of 18/10 after 14 holes. The Elmore-led team of A. Williams then applied the pressure with their own good bowling picking up 5 shots and adding a valuable 5 shots on the 17th end to take the lead 20/18.
With the Valley View team only managing 1 more shot over the closing 5 ends to Elmore’s 4, Elmore ran out winners 24/19.
Valley View taking the overall win against Elmore by 3 shots.
Great bowling to everyone and let’s hope it continues at Moama for our next match.
Saturday pennant gets under way on Saturday at Tongala. Let’s hope the team members can start the way they finished before the break with a win. Good bowling.
