Despite losing to the 2024 runners-up, Kyabram gave the Murray Bombers an almighty scare in round six of Goulburn Valley League netball.

Hosting Echuca at Kyabram Recreation Reserve, the A-grade Bombers gave it their all, falling short by just six goals.
Before the game began both sides celebrated Ashlea Hare’s 300th game in the GVL having played 245 games for Kyabram’s A-grade and now playing for Echuca.

After Kyabram started the first quarter with three goals inside the first two minutes, the Murray Bombers wrestled back the momentum and tallied six unanswered goals to claim the lead.
It was back and forth for the rest of the opening period, but Echuca managed to break away, claiming a five-goal lead at the first break.

The Murray Bombers left the door ajar in the second quarter as Kyabram found its way to get within two goals early before Echuca found its rhythm again, yet the lead was just four heading into half-time.
Some strong attacking play by the girls in green through the middle of the third term provided some separation from the Bombers, with the visitors snagging 14 goals in a big stretch, while limiting Kyabram to six.

A flat fourth-quarter performance by Echuca gave the Bombers a chance to steal it at the death, but the Murray Bombers’ defence held strong to escape with a win.
The final score was Kyabram 38 to Echuca 44.

Tam Skinner was named best-on-court for Kyabram in round five for her efforts in goal attack and goal shooter.
Kyabram has been perhaps a tad unlucky to be 1-5 in 2025, with a few close games not going its way, but a new week will give the Bombers another shot at turning their season around when they host Mooroopna in round six.
