With a slight westerly wind, heavy atmosphere and playing off the blue backmarkers, any score of par or better was the ambition of most teams to advance into the finals of the club's 4-ball match play championships.
As it turned out, to qualify the teams had to score +2 or better, with the best coming from the young pairing of Liam Keenan & Anthony Leddin (+3).
Paul Colyvan and Scott Wileman, Bruce Bryant and David Gebbie, and Shane Bywaters and Peter Hyden were all on +2.
Richard Feuk and Chris Eeles, Peter Anderson and Robert Vise, and Jake Wright and President Leigh Hicks (+1) were the following best but failed to qualify.
Bryant was nearest for his second shot on the long 3rd, Eeles once again was nearest on the 8th, Wileman was closest to the line on 10, while Colyvan nearly holed out to win closest to the Campaspe News 12th.
Players will be looking forward to next week's Stableford event with the closely mown fairways in perfect condition and hitting off the white short course markers to provide good scoring.
Peter Anderson and Ross Lees combined much better in last Wednesday's multiplier 4 ball, their combined score of 46 easily won from Alex McQuibban and Leigh Hicks and Garry Charnas and Shane Bywaters, all on 40 points.
Friday’s ladies’ stroke event was played from the yellow short course tees for the first monthly medal this season. Barb McCarty was victorious shooting a net 82, closely followed by Jenny Major’s net 83. Major also won nearest the line on 10, while her daughter Karen Taylor was closest on the 3rd and 16th.
Lots of work by volunteers over the last few months has the course in great condition for the club's annual tournament starting with the Ladies 4ball on Thursday, May 26.

On Wednesday, May 15, the ladies will be having a fun day and Wednesday, May 25, will be Stableford.
The course is fantastic at the moment and welcome to anyone who wants to come along and join in.
Sunday, May 22, will be men’s stroke and the monthly medal.
