During the annual general meeting last week, House Coordinator Amanda Logie outlined some of the essential services and community-focussed activities that have been able to run this year, despite the challenges of changing restrictions and COVID-19 requirements.
The house has a partnership with the Rotary Club of Rochester in the establishment of the Rochester Community Garden, and oversees the operation of the town’s Men’s Shed, which has volunteer co-ordinators.
The house also manages the Rochester silos merchandise, and businesses who are keen to stock products can contact the house.
“One of our major events is the Town Garage Sale, which is normally held on the Melbourne Cup weekend. We usually have between 80 and 100 sites across the township who participate,” Ms Logie said.
“It will now be held on February 12, 2022, and we are excited at the prospect of being able to hold the event as near to normal as we can.”
FoodShare has been an integral service offered locally for over three years and has played an important role in the community, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Volunteers assist in packing and distributing around 60 food parcels each week, with some of those people requiring delivery across the town,” Amanda said.
“Many of our regular term program activities failed to gain momentum during the year. Our Community Dance program was heavily impacted and will not resume until next year.”

Other regular programs such as Strength and Balance, Community Kitchen, Carers Support Group and the social groups will recommence this term.
“We are holding a First Aid course on Friday, November 12, and our ‘Tune into Technology’ event information session will be held this Thursday; this will be an opportunity for community members to learn how to connect with their family and using their devices and smart phones for daily purposes.
“Our Term 4 program is available, and we encourage people to register their interest early as we expect that numbers will fill quickly.”
