A pleasing response to the reunion from former players, officials and supporters of the club has virtually assured its success.
Over 100 people have already indicated they will be attending the reunion.
An opportunity to reminisce about the club’s journey from 1960 till now, the reunion no doubt will bring back a lot of memories for a lot of people.
There has been a pleasing response to invitations to A grade premiership players in this period, but organisers are emphasising that any players, officials and supporters of the club are welcome to attend.
The big day and night kicks off on Saturday afternoon with reunion goers invited to attend the Cricket Shepparton Kyabram-Mooroopna Haisman Shield clash at the Kyabram recreation reserve.
There will be a dinner in the Wilf Cox on Saturday evening after the cricket ends, which will be compared by former Kyabram icon Ian Purdey who has a strong family connection with the club and is a former A grade skipper.
Purd will also provide one of the highlights of the night, interviewing special guests Jim Higgs and Matthew Elliott, Kyabram’s two Test cricketers.
Matthew played his early cricket with the Kyabram Cricket Club and Higgs, who played for Kyabram Fire Brigade, coached Kyabram in the mid 1970s.
Anyone who still wants to attend the reunion dinner will need to make contact on 0428585227 or (03) 58522579 by tonight so catering arrangements can be finalised.
Campbell is interleague coach
BRAD Campbell is the GOTAFE Goulburn Valley League’s new interleague coach.
The former Tongala and Kyabram premiership player and Mooroopna and Shepparton coach will coach the GVL against the Western Region Football League in this year’s AFL Victoria Worksafe Community Championships. Campbell, who replaces Luke Morgan, has a lot of respect in the league and it will be a popular appointment as the GVL strives to improve its rating on the list of Victorian country leagues.
Jason Wells will again coach the GVL Under 18s.
Campbell is enthusiastic about his new role. “I’m really looking forward to building on the foundations of what Luke (Morgan) and the league have built in the past couple of years.’’ he said.
“We are all proud of the league we have and guarantee we will do all we can, both on and off the field, to give ourselves every opportunity to represent the league the best way possible. We have some very talented players to select from, of all ages and I’m looking forward to watching teams across the league in the early rounds of the season.’’
Campbell continues a family tradition with his appointment, with his father, Des, having played with and coached league representative teams in the past.
Rochester honours two Matts
ROCHESTER Cricket Club acknowledged two local cricket stalwarts last Sunday with a Twenty20 bash.
Named the “Matt Day it was held to recognise Matt Dingwall, a former Rochester Tigers member, and Matt O’Donoghue who played with the Rochester United club. Both were tragically taken in accidents in their prime in recent years.
With the two Rochester clubs combining this season to compete in the Goulburn Murray competition, it was decided to run the game in their honour.
And intentions are it will become an annual event.
Changes aplenty at Tally and Katunga
THERE has been plenty of player movement between Kyabram League club Tallygaroopna and Picola League club Katunga.
Tallygaroopna has now added experienced and tough midfielder Josh Wellington to its ranks for the coming season.
He joins the Redlegs along with last year’s Katunga co-coaches Eamon Reeves and Daniel Burness.
But two of Tally’s 2018 premiership players, Mitch and Dylan Sidebottom, have joined Katunga and their brother Lachlan is also keen to join them.
Wellington has had stints with GVFL club Shepparton Swans and Murray League club Numurkah.
