But for Australian cinemagoers, that may not matter, because Cathy and Heathcliff are played by two of the nation's most attractive acting exports.

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi walked the red carpet at Sydney's State Theatre on Thursday evening, in the finale of a global promotional tour that has taken in Los Angeles, Paris, and London.

At every stop, Robbie's red carpet outfits have stolen the spotlight, with Sydney no exception.

The pair were in high spirits as hundreds of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the homegrown megastars.

Wuthering Heights was also produced by Robbie, through her production company LuckyChap.

Its release has been timed just ahead of Valentine's Day weekend.

The Barbie star is also back in Sydney for the return of short film festival Tropfest, serving as jury president of the competition.
