In an exciting step toward personalised learning, Kyabram P-12 College is set to introduce a new vertical curriculum for Years 9 and 10 in 2026.
Families are invited to attend an information evening on June 16 to learn how this innovative model will offer students more choice, flexibility and challenge.
The new approach will see students able to access subjects tailored to their learning needs and interests, while still meeting all mandated curriculum requirements.
Students can choose subjects which help them to build key skills and knowledge related to their future pathways – whatever pathway that may be.
Within this new approach, students will select subjects across four stages of learning, each targeted to specific needs, achievement and focus.
Students will work in mixed-age classes to ensure greater personalisation and engagement in learning, and to maximise options for students to personalise their learning journey.
This change comes as government schools transition to the new Victorian Curriculum 2.0, with all Learning Areas being implemented from 2026.
Kyabram P-12 College is determined to provide innovative and meaningful learning opportunities for all students, while still aligning to the needs of a new curriculum.
The vertical approach to Years 9 and 10 allows us to move away from a one-size-fits-all educational approach, while leveraging student agency and voice.
Through increased flexibility, adaptability and choice, we can better differentiate learning for student needs and ensure all students can maximise their learning growth and achieve success in their chosen pathways.
This approach allows for us to boost student motivation and ensures all students feel empowered to take ownership of their learning.
A vertical, personalised approach also ensures we can best prepare our students for the future world of education, work and life.
Staff and students have been working hard on designing this new approach since early 2025, ensuring that no stone is left unturned in creating a learning experience for our students which excites, empowers and supports.
Teaching and Learning Leader Rowena Morris believes this approach provides a unique opportunity for students in our region.
“Our students are diverse. They bring with them different passions, skills, experiences and aspirations. It is our responsibility to ensure that the education we provide at Kyabram P-12 College celebrates and harnesses these differences to provide an outstanding educational experience for the students’ chosen future pathway,” she said.
The college is holding an information evening to showcase the new approach and subjects being offered within it.
All members of the college and wider community are warmly invited to this session on Monday, June 16 in the W.A. Kuhne Hall at Kyabram P-12 College.
The event begins at 6pm with an information session, followed at 6:30pm by a subject showcase, where our staff will be on hand to answer any questions. The showcase will be followed at 7pm by our Senior Pathways information session.
