North Melbourne booted the first four goals of Sunday's match to secure the 6.2 (38) to 2.3 (15) win at North Hobart Oval.
Former Pie Jasmine Garner starred with 26 disposals and three goals, while Emma Kearney (24 disposals) was also influential.
Ashleigh Riddell had the ball on a string with 30 possessions.
North Melbourne's fifth win on the trot lifted them to third spot with a 6-1 record, while Collingwood (4-3) remain sixth.
The two sides have fought out some thrilling contests in recent years - including two gripping finals - in what has developed into one of the league's hottest rivalries.
But the root of the rivalry largely lies from several years ago, when North Melbourne poached then-Collingwood stars Garner, Jess Duffin, Emma King and Moana Hope.
Star Collingwood forward Chloe Molloy made her feelings known in a Seven Network interview before Sunday's match.
"They had their reasons for moving on, but I was pretty loyal to the club," Molloy said.
"I'm a loyal person and it just hurt a bit, so that's probably the root of it."
The strong pre-match statement backfired on Molloy, whose first possession didn't arrive until the third quarter.
By that time the damage had already been done, with the Kangaroos' 18-point halftime lead proving too much to overcome.
Molloy finished with just six disposals in a far cry from last week's 18-disposal, two-goal display against West Coast.
"She had a great game last week, so the opposition was a bit tighter on her," Collingwood coach Steve Symonds said.
"We certainly didn't help her cause going forward where we couldn't get the ball in the right spot for her.
"In the second half we put her in the midfield a bit more and she got her hands on it a bit more.
"She's a player that's dynamic when she gets going. We just want to get her up and going a bit more."
North Melbourne coach Darren Crocker was pleased with how his team shut down Molloy.
"You have to plan around someone like her, because she can be a real match winner and game changer," Crocker said.
Garner set the tone with two goals in the opening term and sealed the result with a strong mark and goal in the final quarter.
Brittany Bonnici (18 disposals) and Jaimee Lambert (18 disposals, nine tackles, one goal) battled hard for the Magpies.
Collingwood's Erica Fowler suffered what appeared to be a serious injury to her right ankle late in the third quarter.
"What you've seen out there today was a team that's travelled the last three weeks," Symonds said.
"Certainly fatigue kicked in as far as their decision making, and the skill just wasn't up to the level today."
