Port appoint ex-Blues assistant as head AFLW coach

Ex-Carlton assistant Glenn Strachan has been appointed as Port Adelaide's AFLW head coach.

Strachan takes over from Lauren Arnell, who stepped down in January to spend more time with her family.

Strachan has spent the past five years at Carlton, and has been the senior assistant to the Blues' AFLW head coach Mathew Buck for the past three seasons.

He has also served as a VFL development coach under AFL assistant coach Luke Power, and also as VFLW senior coach at the Blues.

"Working across VFLW and AFLW programs has taught me the value of preparation, integrity and hard work," Strachan said in a statement on Wednesday.

"They are principles I will bring to the role ... at the foundation of my coaching philosophy is helping players develop skills that support them not only in football, but in their lives outside the game."

Strachan's appointment takes immediate effect ahead of the AFLW season starting in August.
