The road has become a safety hazard whenever a funeral service is in progress.
Mourners trying to cross the road are concerned as vehicles on Lancaster Rd are allowed to travel at 100km/h.
The group has requested the speed limit be reduced to 80km/h, and further dropped to 60km/h when there is a service at the cemetery.
KDRRADG has sent a letter to Campaspe Shire Council making it aware of the issue and requesting flip-down signage at each end of the cemetery frontage to indicate slower speed limits when a funeral service is running.
Council has urged the group to liaise directly with Regional Roads Victoria.
Speed limits are set in a state-wide approach by RRV and all signage has to meet its guidelines. This ensures consistency of speed limits across the state, whether in built-up or rural areas.
KDRRADG member Alan Weeks says he was at a recent funeral service and many of the mourners where concerned for their safety.
“People were here trying to cross the road with traffic at 100km/h,” he said.
“I was watching two elderly people try to get across and there was a semi coming and they were battling. The truck driver just beeped the horn and didn’t slow down at all.”
Mr Weeks believes the cheapest option, instead of installing electronic speed signs that alter the limit automatically, would be to drop the speed limit to 80km/h along the stretch of road in front of the cemetery.
“The other option would be to have an interchangeable speed sign to 60km/h when a funeral is in progress,” he said.
With the rise in traffic coming into Kyabram, Mr Weeks believes this issue is only going to get worse and needs to be dealt with before a serious incident occurs.
