Bega Cheese will close its Strathmerton factory, with the loss of more than 300 jobs.
The company told employees and the Australian Stock Exchange of the closure late on Tuesday afternoon.
The cheese processing and packaging operations at Strathmerton will be moved into Bega’s existing site at Ridge St, Bega, in NSW.
A phased closure of the Strathmerton site is expected to be complete by mid-2026.
Bega Group chief executive officer Pete Findlay said Bega was working closely with the 300 employees at Strathmerton whose roles are impacted by this change and will be supporting them through this transition.
“We are very aware of the impact of this decision, and we are doing our best to manage this transition with care and respect for our Strathmerton employees and the local community,” Mr Findlay said.
“Where possible, we will offer re-deployment to employees and continue to support them through this period.”
The company says there is no change to its other five manufacturing facilities in Victoria, including Tatura.
