The entire playing field at the R Premadasa Stadium remained under dark blue covers before umpires called off the game at 5:35 pm local time on Saturday.Â
It was a blow for the defending champions Australia, who had won their first match against New Zealand in fine style on Wednesday with an 89-run victory but now only pick up one point for an abandoned match.
Sri Lanka made a promising start and had India struggling at 6-126 in their first rain-affected game before they went on to lose by 59 runs.

But India could go past them if they, as expected, beat arch rivals Pakistan in the next match of the eight-nation tournament at the same Colombo venue on Sunday.
