"I got the rise out of the dressing room that I expected. So yeah, I took the piss a bit," Head said.
Australia's larrikin run-machine entered rare air with his unbeaten 142 against England on day three of the third Test before his adoring Adelaide crowd.
Head has scored centuries in his past four Test matches in his home city, becoming the fourth Australian to notch a ton in four successive Tests at the same venue.
The peerless Sir Donald Bradman achieved the feat twice, at the MCG and Leeds in England; Michael Clarke scored four in a row in Adelaide; and Steve Smith has done likewise at the MCG.
England great Walter Hammond is the only other cricketer to achieve the feat, at the SCG.
"The wicket has looked after me the last few years," Head said.
"I don't know if I will get another opportunity. Next year there will be pressure on.
"I didn't think I'd get one, so to get four is not too bad."
The home-town hero felt the love from a bumper Adelaide crowd, which roared in collective delight at his milestone.
Head achieved what few cricketers can at Adelaide Oval: attract thousands of fans from the festivities 'out the back' of the members stand to watch some action from the terraces.
"Anywhere I go, I try to take the atmosphere in," said Head, who was born in Craigmore in Adelaide's blue-collar northern suburbs.
"You're not going to play forever.
"Anywhere I am, especially at home, you're going to take that in when you're walking out to bat.
"As your innings goes on you're sort of looking at the crowd.
"You're pretty close here in Adelaide so I can normally see me mates on the terrace, or who is walking by, or who has poked their head out from out the back and come to watch some cricket for a couple of minutes.
"But yeah, you can feel it. They support cricket really well, regardless of (being) South Australian or not."
Making his latest achievement even more special for Head, who now averages more than 86 in his eight Adelaide Tests, was his union with fellow Croweater Alex Carey.
Carey is not out 52, the local dynamic duo putting on an unbroken 122-run partnership.
"He probably kept me up and about there in the last 45 minutes, I started to waver a bit, I was pretty stuffed," Head said of his great mate.
"We don't really talk much (on-field) but you just sense his energy at the crease. And in between overs, you could sense his desire to get to stumps.
"I probably wasn't thinking that too far ahead, I was just trying to get through each over.
"It was a long bloody day so it was nice to walk off with him."
