Grahamvale Primary School Year 3 and 4 students came together on Tuesday to enhance their knowledge of First Nations culture.

The students created art inspired by two animals significant to Yorta Yorta and Bangerang peoples, an eagle and a long-neck turtle.

In collaboration with Koori engagement support officer Rebecca Atkinson, Year 3 and 4 teacher Andrew Papadatos sought guidance in the First Nations art activity.

“It’s important for us to teach students about First Nations history and culture,” he said.

“For them to not only recognise its significance but to have a good understanding.”

The students each created their own design on a feather or scale to come together in a big-picture displayed in the school’s library.
