Dominant world No.1 Scheffler was easily able to overcome a double bogey stumble on the par 3 17th hole as he secured his 20th PGA Tour win, posting a six-under 66 with nine birdies on the Stadium Course at La Quinta, California to finish at 27 under.
Having won six times in 2025 and seven times in 2024, the 29-year-old American showed no sign of slowing in 2026.
Scheffler has claimed all of his 20 wins, including four majors, in the last four years. Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods are the only other players to have won 20 PGA Tour titles before age 30.
"Pretty wild," Scheffler said.
"It's been a great start to my career. It's been special. I try not to think about that stuff too much. I was just trying to do the things I needed to do to be prepared."
Australia's former world No.1 Day showed he too remains a potent force after two decades on tour, matching Sunday's best score with a flawless 64 including eight birdies.
The 38-year-old Queenslander leapt from tied 20th and seven shots back overnight to share second place with Americans Ryan Gerard (65), Matt McCarthy (68) and Andrew Putnam (68).
Having won 13 times on the PGA Tour, it was Day's 100th top-10 finish - the fourth Aussie to reach that miletone after Bruce Crampton (136), Greg Norman (129) and Adam Scott (115).
"That was a milestone that I was very interested in, like very excited to get to," Day said.
The seasoned Aussie was full of respect for Scheffler's current dominance.
"Every time he tees it up he's right around the lead," Day told golf.com.au.
"That is one of the most difficult things to do, to be always stay hungry to the point of not being satisfied."
Scheffler started his day a shot behind overnight leader Si Woo Kim and tied with 18-year-old sensation Blades Brown, his final group partners, but soon took charge.
Kim (72) faded to tie for sixth while Brown ended his remarkable week with a 74 to be tied 18th.
Young Australian Karl Vilips shot a 67 to share 18th place, a shot ahead of veteran Adam Scott (68), while fellow countryman Min Woo Lee tied for 38th with a closing 70.
Scheffler now takes a week off before ending the West Coast with three straight events, starting with the Phoenix Open where this amazing run began four years ago.
