The 54-year-old Alker vaulted to the top of the season-long Charles Schwab Cup standings as he posted a three-under 69 to finish at 20 under and secure a wire-to-wire triumph in the Simmons Bank Championship on Sunday in Little Rock, Arkansas.
He's now in prime position to win his third Schwab Cup in four years. Alker previously won the season-long title in 2022, his first full year on the tour, and again in 2024 when he held off Ernie Els.
"Obviously you want to be as far ahead as you can," said Alker, who opened with a 61 and extended his five-shot overnight lead to claim his 10th win on the tour.
"I know there's not much gap, there's probably five, six guys who can win it.
"So again, it happens every year apart from (Steve) Stricker a couple years ago. I've been there, I know what it feels like and got it done, so hey, we'll just get working on the game."
A winner earlier this season, Green finished fast with a 66 to share his distant second placing with American Tag Ridings (71). Stewart Cink (69) was alone in fourth at 11 under.
Ridings made the biggest jump in the Schwab Cup standings. He entered the week on the bubble in the 35th spot - only the top 36 qualify for next month's Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Phoenix.
Green jumped from 20th to 14th in the standings and is one of six Australians who will head to Phoenix for the season finale.
Cameron Percy is the best-placed of them, rising from 11th to 10th on points after tying for fifth place in Little Rock with a closing 70 to finish at 10 under.
He swapped points positions with multiple winner Steve Allan, who dropped to No.11 after shooting three consecutive 74s to finish second-last in the 52-man field.
Mark Hensby is next at No.23 after finishing tied for 46th on Sunday following a closing 74.
Greg Chalmers remains at No.28 in the standings after shooting 73 to tie for 13th at seven under, and Michael Wright (70) is No.29 after a tie for 30th.
The Aussies to miss the cut off were Rod Pampling (72, tied18th) at No.46 and Stuart Appleby (73, tied 38th) at No.53.
Alker unseated Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez for first place. Jimenez, Cink, Els and Thomas Bjorn round out the top five in points entering the season finale.
