Perth residents have been told to unplug their electrical appliances and stay indoors away from windows as dangerous thunderstorms bear down on the city's southern suburbs.

Armadale, Anketell, Byford, Gosnells, Jandakot, Jarrahdale and Roleystone are expected to be hit about 10am on Wednesday, the Bureau of Meteorology said.
Lightning and destructive winds are likely, with 128 km/h gusts recorded earlier in the day at Rottnest Island.
Severe thunderstorms have also been detected on the weather radar near Parmelia, The Spectacles and Leda.
They are forecast to affect Mardella, Serpentine and Wellard.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Service warned residents to seek shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and creeks.
"Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows," an alert said.
"If there is flooding, create your own sandbags by using pillowcases filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home".
