DOZENS paused for a minute's silence in front of well-loved pine trees last week, as schools in the district honoured servicemen and women in Lone Pine remembrance services.

Kyabram P-12 College was honoured to host Doug Baird, who shared the story of his son, Corporal Cameron Baird.
Corporal Baird was shot dead at just 32 during a battle to take an insurgent-held compound in the village of Ghawchak, in Afghanistan’s Khod Valley, on June 22, 2013.
He was posthumously awarded a Victoria Cross and also received a Medal for Gallantry during his service, which his father wore proudly at the service.
Doug, who travelled all the way from Queensland to attend the ceremony, said it has only been in the last 18 months that he has been able to make an address at remembrance services without choking up.
"Cameron would have loved this service today," he said. "It doesn't matter if you're in front of a crowd of 2000 or 20, it's still incredibly moving and honouring to our armed forces, fallen heroes and their families.
"I will truly remember this for ever."
Kyabram Legatees helped to run the service at Kyabram P-12 College as well as at St Augustine's College, where a service was held last Wednesday.
St Augustine's year six students Abbey Shortis and Jett Guiney did an excellent job as guest speakers.
