RAAF to put on a show in Rushworth

The fly-over is reminiscent of a special relationship between Rushworth and the RAAF.

In March 2017, in the presence of many defence force dignitaries, two statues were unveiled at the High Street memorial to two legends of the RAAF, Air Vice Marshal Frank McNamara VC, and Air Marshal Sir George Jones, who were both born and bred in Rushworth.McNamara won his Victoria Cross on March 20, 1917 when he performed an unbelievably daring rescue of another pilot in the Middle East, and Sir George Jones rose through the ranks to become Chief of Air Staff from 1942 to 1952, the longest continuous tenure of any RAAF chief.This year is also a special one for Rushworth because it marks 100 years of continuous RSL presence in the town.And it is also a significant milestone for two local legends, Stewart Nurse and Graeme Collard, who are finally hanging up their trumpets.

Stewy and Duffy have played the Last Post at almost every Anzac and Remembrance Day Service for almost 70 years.
