Kick off the start of term one with a few rounds in the ring with local police constable Mitchell Bull, make some waves in a pool session or be part of an army-style boot camp focusing on teamwork and fitness.
And there is also a chance to join a team of mentors and emergency services workers in the 9 km Mad Cow Mud Run in Shepparton next month.
In just six months since its humble beginnings, 100 per cent of KyFit participants who answered an anonymous survey in term four said they had learnt new skills and felt healthier, fitter and more confident in themselves.
“I’m getting muscles and I get to work out with Mitch,” said one participant.
“I’m getting bigger, I’m so much fitter and I now know what my body is capable of,” said another.
One 13-year-old KyFit participant said they enjoyed being mentored by emergency services and could mark their improvement early on.
“I am getting better each week. I’m learning how to get healthier and fitter and it’s fun to work out with police officers and the fire brigade,” the anonymous participant said.
The initiative, started by the Kyabram Blue Light committee, was in response to the lack of opportunities for young people wanting to build their health and fitness away from the expectations and commitments of community sports.
Less than four per cent of 15- to 17-year-olds in Victoria meet the National Physical Activity guidelines.
And since the program started, participants completed more than 450 hours of structured, intensive physical exercise.
KyFit is a partnership with the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, Victoria Police, Kyabram P-12 and St Augustine's colleges, Campaspe Cohuna LLEN and Campaspe Youth Partnerships.
Local emergency services from Ambulance Victoria, Kyabram Fire Brigade and Victoria Police come together for an hour each week to participate in structured physical exercise led by Bryan and the MPWR Health and Fitness Team.
KyFit will run one-hour sessions on Thursdays from 4 pm and aims to motivate young people in the community to get active and build connections with peers and local program mentors.
