In an effort to raise funds to support the families of fallen police officers across Australia, participants pledge to run, jog or walk their own set distances of kilometres for the month of May.
Kyabram Police’s senior constable Eva Christou, constable Nathan Marsh and constable Daniel Old along with Rochester Police’s leading senior constable Brenda Wallis put their hands up for their district and ended up raising $2700 collectively.
Participants were also encouraged to set a goal of 159 km - which represents the killed officers’ registration numbers added together.
Constable Marsh, who raised $1700, said the goal he set for himself was to run 5 km for all 31 days of the month.
“We all saw what happened in Melbourne a few weeks ago and we just wanted to do something to help support the families of the victims,” he said.
And while the deadline for donations has passed, Const Marsh said he would still be running the 5 km every day until June regardless.
“Some days you get up and it’ll be pouring rain, freezing cold and muddy but it’s still much better in comparison to what the families are going through so that gets you through it,” he said.
