Having run for over 10 years, the initiative provides support for widows across Kyabram and district.
And while it isn’t quite Christmas in July, 51 residents were still given something to smile about.
For this special occasion, $200 worth of vouchers were handed out, which could be spent at over 50 businesses across Kyabram, Tongala and Stanhope.
Kyabram Legacy Group president Don Cook said it was important to provide extra support during this unprecedented period.
“Most of the widows have been isolated over this period. It’s just an opportunity to put some money out there and a bit of cheer,” he said.
“We normally distribute $250 vouchers at Christmas, but this is a special mid-year one for $200.
“We get tremendous support from the businesses and traders, and this is way to give back to the community.”
Ky Lucky Lotto owner Miles Gould said the initiative was a great showcase of Kyabram’s tight-knit-community.
“The Chamber businesses are working with an organisation such as Legacy for the benefit of not just our widows, but the whole business community as well. Every business is happy to be involved, it also promotes people being involved within the Chamber which then gives us a chance to do more in the community,” he said.
“The idea behind the eight separate $25 vouchers, is that they can spread them around as they wish.”
