The day, organised by the activities co-ordinator Deb Leed, involved a visit from the Echuca and District Historic Vehicle Club and a barbecue lunch runs by the men’s shed.
“We've had a couple days where we've had footy days and that sort of thing, but today we just decided that because we've got some vintage cars in the area we could have a vintage day,” she said.
“I knew a couple of people from the club, so I asked them if they'd like to come along and make the day a bit more special. So we turned it into a vintage day and we just thought let's have some fun.”
Ms Leed said that it’s important at places like Tongala Memorial to make sure there is a strong activities schedule.
“Activities is about having fun reminiscing and just enjoying life. So this brings back lots of memories for people, some good, some bad, but that's okay. It just gives everybody an opportunity to do something different for a change,” she said.
“It's always good to do something different and variety's a spice of life, so if we can put variety back into their life, then that’s what’s important. We add a barbecue lunch and that always pleases everybody.
“With the men's shed volunteering to do our barbecue, we've turned it into a real community event.”
The car’s club member, Andrew Spackman said the club loves to be involved in different community events like this.
“The whole club gets a kick out of this stuff. It’s great to be able to do something different like this,” he said.
“We like to take them around for a little ride. They’ve always loved the old Dodgers the best.”
