Anzac Day at Tongala

Leading the way: Major Brook Buchan was the guest speaker at both the dawn service and Anzac Day march service at Tongala on Monday. He is pictured leading the way, with Tongala RSL members — including Alan Wallace (directly behind the Major) — in support. Major Buchan grew up in Echuca and has served on several overseas deployments.
Honoring the fallen: Campaspe shire Deputy Mayor Colleen Gates was a guest of both the Nanneella and Tongala RSL organisations. She is with Tongala RSL master of ceremonies Greg Rossborough.
Special guest: Patrick Wiltshire, from Wyoming in the United States, and his uncle (and Tongala resident) Daryl. He is carrying the medals won by his great-grandfather - a member of the 8th Light Horse Regiment, who served at Gallipoli after the regiment was raised in September 1914. The Tongala ceremony was part of a three-week trip to Australia for the horseman, who has closely followed the history of his family from the war. The Wiltshire family has continued the tradition of breeding Clydesdale horses, which was started four generations ago when the war hero settled at Lancaster.
Gallipoli salute: Tongala’s Graham Teague with a scarf recognising the 100-year anniversary of the Anzac landing in Turkey.
Drummer boy: Tongala Primary School’s River Townsend was among four guest speakers at Tongala town hall during the Anzac Day ceremony. He also acted as a drummer during the march.
Centre stage: Bugler Mark Turner completed the Last Post during the Tongala ceremony, which included the Rouse and Reveille.
Next generation: Shila Cleveland from St Patrick’s Primary School at Tongala was among four students who delivered speeches at the ceremony.
Speech maker: St Patrick’s Primary School leader Caylee Crilly at the podium for Anzac Day on Monday at Tongala.
At attention: Barry Nunn and Max Webster form a guard of honor at a specially constructed stand in honor of the Anzacs, while Greg Rossborough introduces the official party.
Young leaders: School captains Ava Tinning, Lily Kellett, River Townsend and Jack Brennan, with Tongala Primary School principal Rob Hogan, prior to the Tongala Anzac Day march.
