When club stalwarts and life members Peter and Judy Nelson tossed around their plan to empty their house for an interior paint-over, son Tim, the Bombers’ runner, suggested the senior players could get it done swiftly.
Enticed by a breakfast spread Judy is renowned for, more than 20 players rocked up and got the job done in an an hour, which Peter (Penguin) conceded was a week and a few dozen stubbies quicker than he could have done it!
Wet stuff welcomed
Rain, glorious rain, has fallen over the Kyabram district in the past week.
From Tuesday last week (July 22) to Sunday, 33mm were recorded at the Kyabram Weather Station.
But falls varied throughout the district.
A total of 9.2mm was recorded overnight Tuesday into Wednesday last week and a further 22mm over the weekend.
It has been a crucial follow-up rain to recent falls, with the cropping farmers now on course for a good season.
Mornings have been chilly but only twice in July has the temperature dived below zero. They were both -0.3 readings on July 18 and 24.
Tough talk
Kyabram policeman Shane Roberts delivered a thought-provoking address to the town’s junior netballers and footballers last week.
In one of the last functions at the Wilf Cox complex before it undergoes renovation, Shane told of the dangers of social media and alcohol and drug abuse to an attentive audience of teenagers and their parents.

Bakeries have the goods
The Finley Bakery was well to the fore at the recent Baking Association of Australia Trade Show.
Its mushroom and Guinness pie obviously hit the right tastebuds of judges to win two gold medals in its category.
The bakery, run by Brie Rees and Michael Littlejohn, also won a bronze medal in the plain meat and chunky plain categories and a silver medal for its chunky barbecue brisket pie.
It was also recognised for pies in the steak, cheese and onion, pepper, chilli, chunky bacon and farmer’s choice categories.
And Cobram’s Hungry Fangs Bakery has also put itself up in lights again, cleaning up first place in the Cinnanon Ring Donut category in a Sydney competition, the same award it claimed in 2002. The bakery also struck gold with its coconut beef pie and a swag of silver medals for other pie creations.

Square dinkum
G’day,
I overheard two women talking in the supermarket.
‘’My husband was really annoying me this morning, so I poured a few litres of water on the floor in front of the dishwasher,“ the first one said.
“That was four-and-a-half hours ago … and he’s still trying to fix it.”
Hooroo!!!
