Art has been lost and found again

Splinter Contemporary Artists have taken the theme for their latest exhibition — Lost and Found — and interpreted it right outside the box.

President Esther Costa waited to see whether the group of local artists would illustrate yearning what was lost or new meaning in the things they had found.

What resulted was an eclectic mixture of creations in varied mediums, from paint on canvas to textured textile pieces and artworks created using items foraged in nature.

“Some produced quirky paintings like Terry Butler’s Have we lost our marbles?, while Judy Simm thought about something we lose and hopefully find again at home and then she sewed hundreds of buttons on a canvas,” Splinter Contemporary Artists publicity officer Beverley Dowd said.

Ms Dowd, herself, considered the sad aspect of loss and painted the face of a patient losing their hair in one piece and of a woman in a war zone who’d lost her children and home in another.

Other artists who captured the sentiment of ‘found’ were Amanda Hocking, who depicted a special place that had spoken to her, and Maria Radanov, who was inspired to create art out of random items she’d found.
