Summer fun and literacy go hand-in-hand in Deniliquin this year, with the Edward River Library Summer Reading Challenge.
The challenge started this week and runs through until February 5, and you can register at any time.
There will be a chance to win prizes, and to explore new literary worlds.
Parents can join in too, with a Summer Reading Challenge for ages 16+ also running.
The program aims to address the research that during the school holidays, children can experience a decline in reading proficiency worth 2-3 months of learning.
This decline is known as the ‘Summer Slide’.
It takes only reading six books over the holidays to combat this, but the Edward River Library staff challenge you to see how many more you can read during the break.
Sign up in person at the library, at 55 Napier St, Deniliquin.
The library is open 10am to 5pm weekday, and 10am to noon on Saturdays.
