The community event attracted around 60 people eager to bring their pups to explore the newly established dog park.
The free barbecue, supplied by Benalla Rural City Council, became a focal point for the attendees, where families and friends gathered. At the same time, their dogs made new friends, tails wagging with enthusiasm.
Council’s compliance team fielded questions from curious dog owners, providing valuable information on helping dogs adjust to off-leash areas, local animal regulations, and responsible dog ownership.
They also had giveaways for the dogs, which included tennis balls, dog leads and poop bags.
Mayor Bernie Hearn welcomed attendees to the park, highlighting the collaborative effort that had led to its creation.
“This park is a testament to what we can achieve when we work with our community,” Cr Hearn said.
“It’s not just a space for our dogs; it’s a space for us, the community, to come together, to share, to connect.“
