Car boot buying frenzy at Stanhope

On the clock: Gordon Collyer often refers to himself as the “clock man”, having a collection of more than 500 clocks. Rarely does he sell more clocks than he buys, but this offering was on the table at the Birdwood Ave giant car boot and garage sale at Stanhope. He first visited Stanhope when he was selling Furphy Tanks 15 years ago and now attends the monthly event with wares he has collected from deceased estate sales, flea markets and garage sales. He retired in 2008 and he said “I don’t make much money’’, it was a day out and better than sitting on the couch at home.
Variety of goods: Mark Dempsey (front) and Ross Purtill combined resources to present the hundreds of people that walked by and inspected their stall with a variety of products, ranging from $1 to $10, and beyond. Among the most popular items was a collection of vinyl albums. Ross runs an online second-hand store from his Elmore home and Mark is not far away at Hunter, the pair combining resources to present a joint stall at the Stanhope giant garage and car boot sale.
