Celebrating 'Stronger Together' at YMCLC

A tribute to unity and community strength

This week, from May 13 to May 19, is Neighbourhood House Week and the theme this year is ‘Stronger Together’ highlighting the invaluable work of Neighbourhood Houses in our community.

The important event is a tribute to the incredible strength that blossoms when diverse individuals unite for a common purpose.

Yarrawonga Mulwala Community & Learning Centre (YMCLC) is a not-for-profit community-based organisation with four core functions – Neighbourhood House, Adult & Community Education, Services Australia Agency, and Community Programs.

“We pride ourselves on being accessible and welcoming to all, providing a broad range of quality programs, services, and activities to increase life opportunities, choices, and skills,” YMCLC Executive Officer Juli-Anne Clarke said.

“Since we originally opened in 1988 as Yarrawonga Neighbourhood House we have provided a range of services, including information and referral, support groups, visiting services and social activities.”

The progressive community centre now offers:

•Moira Shire FoodShare Yarrawonga Distribution Centre.

•YMCLC Community Shower Program – Located at Senior Citizens in Yarrawonga.

•YMCLC Community Connections & Resilience Program- Social Prescribing Program.

•Yarra-Mul Community Support Network – Welfare service and support for the Homeless, at risk and financially disadvantaged people.

•YMCLC Community programs and support groups – Yarra-Mul Carers Group, Stroke Support Group, MS Support Group, Ave A Chat Crafters, Friday Open Door Social Group, Boomerang Bags and Talking Café.

Along with the following visiting services and support groups:

•Wellways – Mental Health & Community Hub Services.

•Asuria – Employment Services.

•Interact – Disability Employment Services.

•Social Plus Support Work – Community Access.

•Australian Childhood Foundation – Supporting vulnerable children, young people and their families.

•Alcoholics Anonymous – Support Group.

•Beyond Housing – Homeless Housing Provider.

•Housing for the Aged Action Group – For older people at risk of homelessness.

“We are also a Services Australia agency and can assist Centrelink, Medicare and Child Support customers,” Ms Clarke said.

“To celebrate the week, we invite you to join us at Yarrawonga Mulwala Community & Learning Centre for a special event.”

The event will be the official opening of the new outdoor area. It will showcase the programs, groups and people that make YMCLC 'Stronger Together'

•Talking Cafe at the Learning Centre from 10:00am to 11:00am.

•Lunch at the Community Centre from 11:30am to 1:00pm.

•Guest speaker: Trish Curtis from Upper Murray Regional Neighbourhood House. Network (UMRNHN).
