This park is a testament to what can be achieved through consultation, cooperation, and community support, embodying the idea that “from little things, big things grow”.
What began as a petition by a group of concerned community members evolved into a representative group called Corowa Dog Lovers Inc, which successfully lobbied the council for a site on the unused tennis courts.
An official opening and naming day for the park is in the planning stage.
The park features a large, fully fenced area divided into two zones, and has quickly become popular among dog owners.
Phase 1 of the project was recently completed, with the installation of dog drinking stations.
The park now has two areas with three entrances, each equipped with double gates to ensure the safety of dogs entering.
Additional amenities include waste disposal bins with bags, informative signage, seating, and newly planted shade trees.
Donated baskets of dog toys have also been provided to encourage enjoyable playtimes for the dogs.
The progress made so far is due to the support of the council and the generosity of sponsors and local companies, such as Naubro and Rivergum Dirt Works, which have provided materials and labour.
However, development won't stop here, with plans for play areas for dogs incorporating natural features and agility equipment, shade shelters, and walking paths.
The completed park will be a beautiful space attracting community and tourists, and a real asset to Corowa.
However, all future developments will depend on grants and ongoing support from sponsors and the community.
The importance of these parks cannot be overstated, as they serve as community hubs where friendship groups can form to share their love of dogs and enjoy watching them run and play.
The Corowa Dog Lovers is holding its annual general meeting on Thursday, August 28, from 5:00pm - 6:00pm at the Lions Club rooms.
They welcome all who enjoy the park to join in and share their ideas and support for the park project.
