From safer roads and upgraded footpaths to revitalised public spaces, council says its 2024/25 Capital Works Program has boosted liveability, connectivity and community wellbeing across Benalla.
Key achievements included the completion of the Link Island Bridge renewal and the Webb Rd culvert upgrade in Goomalibee, along with culvert upgrades at Racecourse Rd and Gillies St in Benalla.
Council also completed its kerb and channel replacement, gravel resheeting, shoulder resheeting and road resealing programs.
Work is now under way on the Midland Hwy shared path to the Equestrian Precinct in North Benalla, while plans are taking shape for landmark projects such as the Benalla Indoor Recreation Centre and the Benalla Art Gallery redevelopment.
Mayor Bernie Hearn said these achievements reflected council’s focus on delivering projects that make a difference to everyday life.
“These projects are about more than infrastructure — they’re about improving safety, access and community connection,” Cr Hearn said.
Looking ahead, council has secured funding for several new initiatives, including $2 million through the TAC Safe Local Roads Program, with planning already under way.
Blackspot funding has also been allocated for intersection upgrades at Goorambat-Thoona Rd and Bungeet Rd, as well as pedestrian safety improvements along Bridge and Carrier Sts.
Other upcoming projects include drainage improvements at The Culdesac, installation of playground fencing at McKellar St Reserve, and construction of a pump track for BMX bikes.
Lighting upgrades are also planned for Benalla Airport.
