Health and wellbeing support facilities, a diamond interchange at Camerons Ln on the Hume Fwy, and a new recreational precinct at Wallan are among the highest priorities.
“Our population is growing fast – and it’s going to get faster,” Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Chisholm said.
“We need investment now by the Federal Government to ensure positive outcomes for our community as we grow.”
Cr Chisholm said council was looking for $14 million to go towards the Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub ‒ a $23 million project that will offer integrated health and mental health support for the Seymour community.
“Investment in the Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub will help to uplift the community from deeply entrenched intergenerational disadvantage,” Cr Chisholm said.
Council has also asked for a funding commitment of $5.2 million for the Greenhill Recreation Precinct at Wallan.
“The Greenhill Recreation Precinct is a game changer for our community,” Cr Chisholm said.
“It will be a truly unique environmental, cultural and sporting precinct; a $5.2 million investment will help to progress this project.”
Council said federal commitment to the diamond interchange at Camerons Ln at Beveridge would directly create 2000 jobs, and support another 20,000 in the area.
Cr Chisholm said the interchange was “at the heart of one of Australia’s fastest growing corridors”.
“Critical funding for this project now will support future decades of housing and jobs expansion; this will change the face of Melbourne and northern Victoria.”
