Officers executed three unrelated search warrants at properties in Kyabram and Rushworth leading to four arrests and the discovery of items ranging from drugs to weapons.
Kyabram police Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Van Emmerick said the raids had taken drugs and weapons out of the community and “stopped them from ending up in the wrong hands’’.
He also said police were intensifying their crackdown on drugs in the community.
“We know drugs have a much wider impact than just the drug user and we are continuing to target individuals and crime groups trafficking, importing and distributing illicit drugs,” Act Sen Sgt Van Emmerick said.
On Tuesday, March 24, officers searched a Rushworth property on Smith St where they located alleged cannabis plants, equipment to make drugs, a wooden crossbow and ammunition.
A Rushworth man, 56, was arrested at the scene and charged with cultivating narcotic plants, possessing drug of dependence and possessing cartridge ammunition while not a licensed holder.
He was also charged on two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon – one for a slingshot, the other for a crossbow.
The man was bailed and will appear at Echuca Magistrates' Court in July.
On Sunday, March 29, two arrests were made at a property at Kyabram after Kyabram and Rushworth police located several dozen alleged cannabis plants.
Police also found alleged MDMA pills.
A man, 30, was arrested and charged with possessing controlled drugs and was ordered to complete a drug diversion program.
Another man, 54, was arrested and charged with cultivating narcotic plants and possessing cannabis.
The 54-year-old man was bailed and will appear at Echuca Magistrates’ Court in July.
On Friday, April 3, a Kyabram man, 41, was arrested at a property at Crossthwaite St after police executed a search warrant.
Kyabram police located alleged drugs, a taser and a replica gel blaster.
The man was charged with possessing cannabis, possessing a prohibited weapon without exemption and prohibited person possessing an imitation firearm.
The man was bailed and will appear at Echuca Magistrates’ Court in June.
