And Edward River Council made it even more so, with its first ever Australia Day weekend pool party.
Getting underway at 6pm, local and visiting families were invited to the swim centre where entry was free and a pizza dinner was provided.
When attendees were not in the pool keeping cool and playing games, they sought out the shade in small picnic groups to feast on the pizzas made on site as they waited.
Once the run went down - providing a bit more relief - the movie screen lit up.
On show was the Dreamworks animated family favourite, Home.
The pool party was offered to complement Edward River Council’s traditional Australia Day activities, which included a meet and greet soiree with Australia Day Awards nominees (see page 10) and the official Australia Day breakfast and ceremony event at the Town Hall on Monday.
Council arranged for pizzas to be made on site and free to families.
Families enjoyed a picnic feast of pizza before hitting the pool.
The splash park was a popular spot for the young ones.
