Share the Dignity’s August drive is officially under way, helping women and girls who are struggling to access and afford these everyday essential items.
“Share the Dignity is to help women that are in poverty, (and) can’t afford to buy period products,” local Share the Dignity committee member Jill Peters said.
“They have to choose to buy food over period products, which it shouldn’t be that way, so the aim is to end period poverty,” committee member Tammy Sellwood said.
Community members wanting to support the campaign can buy and donate unopened sanitary items, including pads, tampons, menstrual cups, maternity pads, reusable period products, incontinence products, and intimate spray, wash and wipes.
Throughout August, the products can be dropped into the pink collection boxes located at the Echuca Central Woolworths, Echuca West Woolworths, Moama Woolworths, and Kyabram Woolworths.
Mrs Sellwood said that all items collected stay within the region.
“That’s the beautiful thing, is that it is going to local women in need,” she said.
