The home, which is located less than five minutes from Seymour Health, has been designed to support Mitchell Shire residents with complex care needs, providing wheelchair accessibility and a dedicated space for in-home supports.
For many NDIS participants requiring high levels of physical care, a lack of specialised local housing has historically meant facing long hospital discharge delays or being forced to relocate to Melbourne, away from their families, familiar community networks and current care services.
Created by Secure Housing Australia, the accommodation is designed to be a purpose-built forever home that solves the potential problems of relocation or long discharge delays.
Secure Housing Australia general manager Lysa Hough said it was important that the house felt like a home.
“One of our big key features is that a specialist care home shouldn’t look any different to any other house on the street,” Ms Hough said.
The house has extra-wide hallways and an open feel.

Built for safety, independence and complete care, the property has been designed from the ground up to exceed NDIS High Physical Support standards.
Among its key structural and physical features, the house also includes advanced assistive technology, with structural reinforcement ready for ceiling hoist installations, keypad with fingerprint door access and automated window blinds.
There is also a comprehensive emergency backup power supply system to ensure vital medical equipment remains operational during local power outages, and extra-wide corridors and doorways to accommodate oversized wheelchairs, paired with expansive turning circles in all private bathrooms.
While a dedicated Onsite Overnight Assistance room ensures support workers can provide 24/7 care and immediate emergency response, each resident has their own private, independent space, both indoors and outdoors.
The space is designed to feel like a home.

“We do it a little different because we want to make sure that when people move in, that they’ve got their own space,” Ms Hough said.
“What we promote here, through our business, is independent living.
“It’s not always possible, but if it is possible, you should be able to move around your home freely and be able to access everything within the house.”
While it’s within close proximity to the local medical hub, the house is also located near the Seymour Station and the Station St retail precinct, ensuring residents remain deeply integrated into the local community, while making it simple for regional families to visit.
It’s all about making independence accessible across the board.
“This should be your forever home; you shouldn’t have to move again,” Ms Hough said.
The property is currently open for private viewings by local families, support co-ordinators and occupational therapists looking to secure a placement.
