Principal Tony Shannon said Ms Price would be in control of the junior class and he would be working with the senior students.
The three new preps at Merrrigum include a set of twins, Chelsea and Summer Bavage, along with Harbaaz Singh.
“We’ve been steady (in the high teens) for the last couple of years. Seventeen students is one less than last year,” principal of the past 15 years Tony Shannon said.
He is one of two teachers and a tutor learning teacher that make up the staff, while the school also hosts the Mobile Area Resource Centre (the library on wheels that services 12 country schools).
Mr Shannon said there was a bit of excitement within the school community regarding future intakes at the school.
A major real estate development at the southern end of the town, which boasts several large blocks, has the potential to bring more families to the town.
“They are apparently on the market and there is quite a bit of interest,” he said.
Mr Shannon said the new arrivals had settled in well, continuing the tradition of arriving at school and immediately sitting down with the big kids for reading read with the little kids.
The school has one Year 6, Declan Berner.
