Rochester resident Jan McInnes and good friend Marg Wayland were surprised recently when they discovered something a bit different after a busy morning of egg collection.

They were collecting the eggs from Mrs McInnes’ chickens when they came across a strange egg.
“I thought it was hilarious when I first saw it,” Mrs McInnes said.
“I thought, who’s playing a trick on me?”
Mrs McInnes has a total of four chickens, with two of them being recent additions to the small flock.
“I’ve been living in Rochester for the past 32 years, And I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” Mrs McInnes said.
Mrs McInnes said that while she had kept chickens for many years in Rochester in her large, planted garden, she intended to keep them for as long as possible.
“I don’t want to break it. I want to keep it as long as I can.
“I don’t think I’ll be eating it.”
Her years of keeping the feathered friends have shown her what to feed them.
“I feed my chickens the usual things, like vegetable scraps and oats in the morning,” she said.
Perhaps after the tough year the town has had, some good, light-hearted news would put a smile on anyone’s face.
“It’s great to know some good news for the town. And who knows, maybe the strange-shaped egg might even bring me a lot of good luck,” Mrs McInnes said.
