Emergency services personnel recently put their skills to the test in Rushworth, responding to a high-intensity road crash rescue simulation.

The Ambulance Victoria-led training exercise brought together Ambulance Victoria paramedics, communications centre employees and community officers along with CFA and SES representatives.
Designed to enhance communication, co-ordination and operational effectiveness, the simulation involved a collision between a minibus and a car, requiring the 38 participants to assess and treat 10 patients.
“This was an important exercise for local crews because large-scale incidents in rural areas present unique challenges and best patient care relies on strong co-operation between multiple agencies,” Ambulance Victoria acting Campaspe senior team manager Troy Pickles said.
“The exercise provided a safe environment to test plans, identify communication or co-ordination challenges, and strengthen working relationships before a real emergency occurs.”
Participants developed their skills across areas including mass-casualty patient triage, major incident command and control, communication and information sharing, resource co-ordination and decision-making, and inter-agency processes and responsibilities.
“It also reinforced our crews’ confidence in managing complex incidents and demonstrated we can work together seamlessly with other emergency services to achieve the best possible patient outcomes,” Mr Pickles said.
The training exercise involved representatives from Ambulance Victoria, the CFA, SES and local emergency management stakeholders.
