His public warning of a potential hazard on the footpath along Union St, Kyabram, comes after he made an attempt to alert Campaspe Shire Council of the “accident waiting to happen’’.
The pole stub is between the entrance to Subway Kyabram and Australia Post and its presence has been ignored by council.
A reader made the Free Press aware of the hazard after witnessing a woman trip on the protruding metal base of a street sign on the footpath after stepping out of her vehicle.
“She didn’t see it, because she had just gotten out of the car and taken one step on to the footpath,” our insider said.
“Fortunately she wasn’t injured, but that sparked me to call into the shire office at Kyabram and let them know what had occurred.”
He said he had reported the issue a week before stepping into the Free Press’ Allan St office.
“I witnessed the woman at the shire write urgent into the system. A week later and nothing had been done,” he said.
“Even if they put a cone over the pole, I’d be happy. It wouldn’t take a lot to make it safe for people.”
The pole stub, which protrudes more than five centimetres from the ground, looks like it has either been sawn off or used as a sleeve for a removed disabled parking sign.
Stay tuned for an update next week.
