His name is revered at tiny Cooma, and particularly, by its recreation reserve board members and CFA unit.
Frank is one of those unsung heroes who has been happy to do his bit for the community, and he has done more than his share at Cooma.
Such as 42 years on the Cooma Recreation Reserve and over 50 years of voluntary service to the Cooma CFA.
Not afraid to spread his wings around the district and beyond before retiring to Tatura, Frank was also awarded with a life membership of the Merrigum Football/Netball Club for his voluntary service.
Volunteering on work projects in East Timor in 2017, and helping with the construction of a medical centre, was another bow to his impressive and lengthy voluntary service list.
Then there was also replacing fences after the fires in Cudgewa and Tintaldra in 2020.
Yes, when help is needed, Frank was a just call away.
He has been a hard man to keep down, and recently, his voluntary work was fittingly rewarded with a community service award by Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (formerly DELWP).
He was presented with the award by its president Stuart Bott.
CITATION
Frank Leydin joined the Cooma Recreation Committee in 1982.
In his 42 years of continuous service to the committee, Frank has made a huge contribution to the smooth running and management of the Cooma Recreation Reserve.
Frank took on the role of secretary in 1984 and again was elected in 1987 until the year 2000. (14 years as secretary.)
As a farmer living close to Cooma, he was ever ready to volunteer his tractor and farm machinery to top dress the ovals, sew the ovals, spread gravel on the internal roads and grade them, remove fallen branches and repair fences.
There was never a task too big or too small that Frank would volunteer to help— often with an improved method for completion.
Frank has also completed over 50 years voluntary service to the Cooma Fire Brigade as an active member and secretary.
He is also a member of the Tatura Tree Group and a long-standing life member and volunteer of the Merrigum Football Club.
Frank has made a huge contribution to the Cooma community and beyond. The wider community is much richer for Frank’s contributions.
