Financial Crimes Squad detectives have charged a former local council employee for allegedly defrauding three councils by almost $1.3 million.

In May 2024, the Financial Crimes Squad Fraud Unit established Strike Force Mullagh to investigate a 59-year-old man over allegations of fraud and corruption while employed at councils between 2012 and 2024.
Following inquiries, detectives discovered the man had allegedly authorised and approved fraudulent invoices for contractors in Goulburn, Shoalhaven and Murrumbidgee areas.
During the period, a total amount of $1,295,029.94 was allegedly deposited into bank accounts that were controlled by him.
On Wednesday, January 28 2026 a 59 year-old man was arrested at Parramatta Police Station.
He was charged with 41 counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception and one count of holder of public office misconduct him or herself.
