Bombers set a date with GV football history

All-conquering Kyabram will get its shot at Goulburn Valley Football League history after barging its way past reigning premier Benalla in a one-sided second semi-final at Tatura on Sunday.
If the Bombers win on grand final day on Sunday week at Deakin Reserve, Shepparton, they will become the first side in the league’s history to go through a season undefeated.
After an even first quarter on Sunday the Bombers put the foot down and left the Saints wallowing in their wake in a runaway 62-point win — the 20th for the season.
It was nearly one-way traffic from the second quarter onwards as the Bombers dominated just about everywhere.

Powerful park protest
People power is flexing its muscles in Kyabram as locals go public to protest their frustration at the lack of parks in the area.
Many residents feel there are inadequate recreational facilities for families.
A large group of parents and concerned community members gathered at a park on Wilson and Bond streets on Thursday to discuss the issue.
The issue has come to attention after Kyabram resident and Echuca GP Jessica Halstead went online with a letter she had sent Campaspe Shire Council.

Kyabram’s Kojaks on the beat
Kyabram has been invaded by bald police officers, and no, there’s not something in the water.
The officers were the ‘victims’ of a head fundraising shave on Friday night at the Kyabram Club.
The Crop-a-Cop Challenge around Australia has raised over $1 million for cancer research and support for children, with around 1200 police officers having their heads shaved.
Kyabram police officers Sergeant Warwick Rose, Senior Constable Danny O’Brien and Senior Constable Pat Storer were the ‘victims’ for the head shave after $3000 was raised by the community for the Challenge organisation.

Our latest Aussie champ
Young Kyabram volleyballer Sam Wills is a national junior volleyball champion.
Sam was a member of the under-19 Victorian state team that has won the Australian championship in Melbourne.
The Victorian team went through the series undefeated in its matches until the second last game against South Australia.
Sam’s team played seven games in five days and qualified to meet Queensland in the final.

It’s Girgarre’s flag
Class and experience landed Girgarre a long-awaited and richly deserved premiership in the Kyabram District League last Saturday at Undera.
Before an $1840 gate, Girgarre established a matchwinning lead in the first half and was able to counter each of Nagambie’s desperate lunges to whisk away the premiership in the second half to run out winners by three goals at the finish ― 17.3 to 14.13.
The game produced a good standard of football for a minor league, with Girgarre exploiting handball to advantage and this, plus several ‘dust ups’, gave the big gallery their money’s worth.
Girgarre held a clear edge in overall strength and its class and experience stood it in good stead all day.

Quiet celebration for Kyabram’s first centenarian
Kyabram’s first centenarian, Mrs Christina Nankivell, celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday, September 19, when members of her family and close friends visited her in the A.G. Hutchinson Wing at Kyabram Hospital.
Congratulatory telegrams, cards and flowers flooded in from all parts of Australia. The mayor of Kyabram, Cr Arthur Pollard, accompanied by the mayoress, visited Mrs Nankivell in the morning, and presented her with a certificate awarded to centenarians by the Australia Day Council of Victoria, and also a King Albert cup, saucer and plate on behalf of the council.
The mayor then presented a sealed letter of congratulations signed by all members of the Kyabram Council, and the mayoress presented her with beautiful sheaf of flowers.
