Fifty Higher School Certificate students of Kyabram High School were involved in the annual exams, but would have to wait until January to receive their results in the mail.

The entire school year had been condensed into a series of three hour exams for the students.
It was not until more than a decade later, in 1987, that the VCE was first trialled and the new form of the certificate was not introduced until 1992.
A major fundraising program to secure $200,000 of services for children and aged people at Kyabram Hospital was close to reaching its target.
Program chairman Fred Wooller said 400 people had contributed to the total of $197,776 and several clubs had also been involved in reaching the total.
There were still about 200 calls for the fundraising committee to make and expectations were the appeal could still reach the $250 million mark.
– Kyabram Apex Club president Peter Hann and Apexian-councillor Frank Findlay were planning an arbour program to beautify the town of Kyabram.
The area between Breen Ave and the railway line from Allan St to the high school was a focus of the group.
It was on the back of census figures which revealed Kyabram now had a population of 5122, with a total of 134 new homes being built in the last five years.
Deakin Shire had a population of 5503 and the Victorian population at the 1976 census was 3,645,397.
– National Australian Jaycees president Alan Rossiter was the special guest of the Kyabram chapter of the service club for its handover dinner.
Barry Evans was inducted as the new president of the club for 1977, taking over from Peter Fraser, who had been in the role for the previous two years.
Mr Evans was recognised as the club’s most outstanding Jaycee of 1976 and most outstanding project winner was Rob Harris.
Murray Maxwell, Murray Denton and Joe Jacobs were other award winners.
1986
– Kyabram Chamber of Commerce launched a major advertising campaign for Christmas in the Kyabram Free Press, with more than 4000 individual supplements posted out to potential customers.
The Kyabram Christmas Bonus supplement featured a variety of specials that were offered to the townspeople and chamber members armed with adhesive tape were being used to prepare the supplements for postage
– Six hundred tonnes of rock had been dumped into the holes on the face of a wall at Waranga Basin by the Rural Waste Commission, amid fears of the basin wall collapsing.
Gale force winds at the site had caused the concerns, with wave action causing the damage to the wall.
– Lieutenant John Griffiths, the man destined to become the captain of Kyabram Fire Brigade, was named the 1986 Fireman of the Year.
It was the fourth time the award had been made, ex-captain Bob Vick announcing the award at the brigade’s annual meeting.
1996
– Kyabram won three categories at regional level in the Keep Australia Beautiful Rural City Pride-Tidy Towns Awards.
St Augustine’s College was named the Tidy Towns Schools winner for the region, the town also took the Litter Control Award and Kyabram Fauna Park won the tourism award.
Kyabram’s bid was coordinated by Kyabram Rotary Club’s Ezio D’Alberto.
In the past 12 months the town had completed the unique community project at the fauna park, planting 1000 native plants and starting work on the new Environmental Education Centre.
Extensions to the Warramunda complex and hospital were also mentioned in judge Bill Cane’s report, along with the Wyuna Landcare Group’s Saltwatch, Frogwatch and Waterwatch programs.
He reported 700 voluntary hours had been contributed to another Kyabram venue, the Plaza Theatre, to add to the historic nature of the town’s pristine presentation.
2006
Caitlin Edwards topped the VCE results for Kyabram students with a score of 98.55, earning the dux honours as 33 per cent of students scored 75 or above.
She scored a perfect 50 in legal studies, but was planning to spend a gap year in China during 2007.
Other students that excelled were Samantha Baker, Mitchell Coombs, Sam Lovison, Emma Robbins, Ella Sutton and Emma Sweeney.
Alongside Caitlin Edwards, for other students are travelling to Russia, China and Canada in the Gap Year program.
– New Campaspe Shire Mayor John Elborough was elected to the top job, on the back of the recent resignation of shire CEO Wayne Harvery.
Cr Elborough was elected to the Shire of Campaspe in March 2000 and served as mayor in 2002-03. For this latest stint he replaced Cr Judi Lawler.
– More than 300 customers were out of water on the Central Goulburn System and another 794 had used about 90 per cent of their water allocation.
Central Goulburn Operations staff had tipped about 65 per cent of customers would be out of water before Christmas, with rain the only answer to the organisation’s problems.
Leaking channels and water theft were a focus of the organisation, with customers also being encouraged to reduce their stock and domestic use of water.
